As a people, once again, we are under attack. When I say a people, I mean mothers, fathers, babies, sisters, cousins and brothers. The population of Gaza has been under seige for over a week now and we have to stand in solidarity with them as humans first and foremost. This is not to support any political faction, as we are at a phase in Arab society where nobody represents us.
The Israeli occupation of Gaza, and I dare not say incursion because it has reached new heights of entering a city, has now brought the death toll to over 500 people and the injured list over 3000. If this were to happen in New York, Montreal, Toronto, or anywhere on the Western Hemisphere, we would be forever bombarded with the injustice, the terrorism, the inhumane actions and the unrealistic violence that it is. Why is the life of an Arab cheaper than the rest?
All this to say, please stand up and make your voice be heard. Write about the facts, go to your rallies and scream. But most importantly, please, donate to the organizations you know that are helping and reaching out to Gaza with medical supplies, food and all necessities needed for survival. Since most of us don't have direct access to Gaza, this is the best we can do.
One of the organizations I can suggest who is on the ground in Gaza and running out of supplies quick, is UNRWA. This is an international fund that can be reached anywhere you are in the world, and a dollar helps. Anything Helps. Their website is as follows:

I also urge to go to your local chapters of Palestinian organizations with a track record and donate your time, effort and whatever is needed. This is the only way we can really make a difference, because God knows, our leaders won't for us.
I have recorded this song in memory of those who passed away in Gaza and those who are surviving. It features Shadia Mansour, a Palestinian singer/poet out of London. Please send this to as many people as you know, let it reach Gaza and let people know we stand with them. We will not be silent.

Can't wait to hear it brother... I haven't really slept much in da last few days. At the same time I feel that just like in Lebanon 2006, the Zionist will be humiliated and defeated. We'd rather die on our feet than live on our knees. Who can ever beat that? AllahuAkbar.
Big A
I have been supporting my local protest/resistance movement but I have ultimately been left with this nagging feeling that the movement is lacking focus, specifically political focus—thousands of people are looking for words of leadership, ready to be dispatched in whatever ways are asked of them, and there has been nearly no mention of political goals other than abstract shouts about "imperialism" and "boycotts" (when has a civilian boycott of an entire nation ever worked, I'd like to know).
I think expressions of outrage and solidarity are incredibly important and necessary—it's important for the world to see how many of us stand with the Palestinian people. I just find myself wishing for a more incisive, proactive political message; a demand for more transformation in first-world governments as well as the governments in the Arab states who are allowing themselves to be bullied or bribed into silence.
UNRWA is great. Red Crescent (http://www.palestinercs.org/) is great. Everyone should also sign up for the mailing list at freegaza.org to receive daily updates and guidelines for putting pressure on our politicians.
I'm cynical about the lack of leadership but I remain hopeful and engaged with the people.
Not much sleep in Frisco, either.
